during the time of 1853 commodore perry was a comander of japan.One of the things that were happening that time was that the americans had come to open up japan. they wanted water and coal for their whaling ships and china trade. Also the impact of perry's visit was that extraordinary all those starnge ; huge black ships and starge people red faced foreigner. It was as if they came from mars.
